Our Mission
In the shift towards more sustainable proteins, the interest in alternative, fermentation-based proteins is growing massively. The ProteInn club provides knowledge and answers to those who want to grab opportunities and tackle the challenges of this transition. The ProteInn Club is a successful collaboration between Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant, UGent, CAPTURE and Flanders Research Institute for Agriculture Fisheries and Food (ILVO) and identifies, connects, supports and inspires the entire value chain.
We bring together all actors in a more sustainable food system and circular bio-economy. We facilitate innovations and accelerate the further development of a really unique fermentation-based protein ecosystem.
Share with us your insights, offers, ambitions, questions or needs and bring your expertise to our enlightening demonstrations and innovative workshops.

Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant is an independent, state-of-the-art facility that operates from a laboratory level to a multi-ton scale. Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant is a service provider for process development, scale-up and custom manufacturing of biobased products and processes. A wide and flexible spectrum of modular unit operations enables us to translate your biobased lab protocol into a viable industrial process.
Ghent University executes groundbreaking research in the field of fermentation-derived proteins. Synthetic biology and fermentation process development are excellence domains of Ghent University and key expertises for The ProteInn Club. In addition, UGent research groups provide research in several potential application domains for microbial proteins.
CAPTURE is a collaborative research platform focused on resource recovery with Ghent University, University of Antwerp, VITO and VUB as core partners. The topic of fermentation-derived protein fits within the scope of the thematic pipelines ‘water fit for use’ and ‘CO2 to product’. Several involved research groups provide relevant and excellent expertise.
Flanders Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (ILVO) is an independent scientific research institute of Flanders Government. Its assignment from the government is to work on the sustainability of agriculture, fisheries and agri-food sector. ILVO’s work is strongly anchored in Flanders and extends from there to Belgium, Europe and the rest of the world.
